Hamilton General Hospital - MRI Campaign

 What is MRI?

Shorter wait times... Change starts with You!

Hamilton General Hospital’s existing MRI system is operating at maximum capacity. The addition of a second MRI unit will significantly decrease wait times for scans, equip the Hospital to better deal with growing patient needs and offer increased access for research purposes.

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care recently approved operational funding for additional MRI hours on a second MRI machine at Hamilton General Hospital. As the funding covers only the machine’s operation, the Hospital must rely on donor gifts in order to pay for the new MRI.

Up until this point, the Hospital’s single MRI unit is unable to keep up with the high demand for scans and cannot adequately support the Hospital’s important research programs. Despite working at maximum capacity, average wait times for MRI scans were the longest in the region, sitting at nearly four times the provincial target of 28 days.

To support the needs of the Hospital, Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation has committed to raise $2-million to support the purchase of a new 1.5 Tesla MRI. For every dollar donated, an additional dollar in previously secured funding will be directed towards this important project. This reduces our total fundraising need to only $1-million and means your contribution will have double the impact on patient care at Hamilton General Hospital.
