When Gord and Dianne Jamieson agreed to act as executors for their dear friend Wanda Brennian, they weren’t sure exactly what was involved. Sadly, they were to find out in May of 2007, when Wanda passed away.
Included in Wanda’s will was a generous gift to the Juravinski Cancer Centre (JCC) in memory of her husband, Hugh, who had succumbed to cancer in 2006. As executors of Wanda’s estate, the Jamiesons visited the JCC and participated in the direction of Wanda’s legacy gift. They agreed that Wanda would have been pleased to know her gift would support the training of physicians who are pursuing a career in cancer research.
In September 2008, while on vacation in Scotland, Dianne experienced abdominal discomfort. In February of 2009, she found out she had lymphoma. She was back at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, this time, for treatment that would hopefully save her life. Dianne started chemotherapy immediately, a regime that would last almost six months. Fortunately, she suffered few side effects, other than the loss of her hair. Dianne and Gord are thrilled to share that Dianne’s treatment was successful! Dianne is now in a maintenance program.
In appreciation for the care Dianne received at the JCC, Gord and Dianne decided to make their own legacy gift to the JCC. They thought that by leaving a gift in their will, they could express their support for the JCC now, without affecting their income today. And in so doing, Gord and Dianne became members of the Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation’s Legacy Circle.
