Hummingbird Ball 2012 - A Red Carpet Affair

On Saturday May 12, A Red Carpet Affair: The 11th Annual Hummingbird Ball was held at Carmen’s Banquet Centre in Hamilton. The event, which raised funds in support of Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre’s Hematology Patient Care and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, was a huge success. Guests enjoyed the evening’s Hollywood theme, including oversized Oscar statues, Academy Awards inspired décor and the chance to mingle with impersonators Joan Rivers, Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra.

Morris Mercanti
A long-time supporter of The Foundation, Mr. Mercanti chaired and co-chaired the Hummingbird Ball for five years and served terms on both the Cancer Centre Foundation’s Board of Directors and its Fundraising Council. Morris Mercanti, the current President of The Oakville Banquet and Conference Centre and co-founder of Carmen’s Banquet & Convention Centre, was honoured for his dedication and volunteer commitment.

Rotary Club of Ancaster AM
For over a decade the Rotary Club of Ancaster AM has been a key partner of Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, providing extensive support for a broad range of patient care initiatives. In 2011, the Club expanded their efforts by directing the proceeds from A Cosmopolitan Affair, their annual fashion show fundraiser, to the campaign to build and equip the CIBC Breast Assessment Centre.

BRIGHT Run Committee
In 2008 the Breast Disease Site Team at Juravinski founded the BRIGHT Run with a mission to raise funds and awareness to support breast cancer research conducted right here in our own community. Thanks to the tireless efforts of its organizing committee, the event has been a huge success, attracting more than 1,000 participants annually and raising over $1.3-million in just four years.
