Transformational change is underway at McMaster Children’s Hospital. Over the next two years, three of our major service areas will be relocated to purpose-built spaces optimally designed for children and their families.
Though the redevelopment will enhance patient care and provide additional support for Mac Kids, its increased capacity will also create an urgent need for new hospital equipment. As medical equipment is not funded by the province, Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation launched Essentials for Excellence, a program raising funds to equip our Ophthalmology, Diagnostic Imaging, and Emergency Departments.
Pediatric Emergency Department Campaign
The redevelopment of the Emergency Department is one of the largest and most transformative projects undertaken at Mac Kids in its 20-year history. When completed in 2012, the Emergency Department will serve nearly 40,000 children with potentially life-threatening injuries and acute health problems. The department will more than double in size and feature a modern design with the latest in medical equipment and technology.
Funds raised through this campaign will ensure that the specialty equipment and tools designed for children are always within reach of our staff.
The cost to outfit the redeveloped department with technology and equipment specially designed for children is estimated at $1.5-million. This investment allows us to provide the Essentials for Excellence to our emergency room teams. The Essentials include having an optimal environment for children and their families along with the ideal tools our specialists need to care for everything from cuts and coughs, to life-threatening illnesses and injuries.
On Saturday, June 2nd McMaster Children’s Hospital, in partnership with Hamilton Police and Hamilton Public Health are proud to present the first annual Mac Kids Walk & Wheel for Miracles.
