McMaster Children’s Hospital is one of Canada’s leading pediatric health care facilities and is the regional referral centre for children who are seriously ill, injured or require specialized services in South-Central Ontario.  More than 180,000 visits are made to the hospital throughout the year. Specialized services include 40 pediatric clinics, the province’s largest neonatal intensive care unit and the only pediatric trauma centre in the region.

Community Launch of Champions, presented by Walmart

On September 15, associates from Walmart stores across the region joined together at McMaster Children’s Hospital for the Community Launch of the 2011 Champions program, presented by Walmart. During the ceremony, Emily Croxon was officially announced as the Mac Kids 2011 Children’s Miracle Network Champion.

Emily is an amazing 11 year old who is a true champion. She has required aggressive treatment for the past eight years to control her Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. Emily and her family shared her incredible story of courage and determination and the special care she continues to receive at McMaster Children’s Hospital.
 
In October, Emily and her family will attend Children’s Miracle Network festivities in Ottawa along with the other Canadian champions who are acting as ambassadors of their hospitals. Emily and her family will then travel to Disney World in Orlando with the Children’s Miracle Network Champions from across North America.

What’s that car doing in the lobby of Mac Kids?!

Watch as this new 2012 Acura MDX is rolled into the lobby of Mac Kids! Acura of Hamilton is promoting its partnership with Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation through the Care4 program. $200 from every new Acura sold or leased is donated to Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation in support of Mac Kids and the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre.
 

West Jet providing joy to children in hospital

The holiday spirit echoed throughout the halls of McMaster Children's Hospital this morning as West Jet employees presented gifts to patients after collecting them during their annual toy drive. This event brought many smiles to the faces of our young patients. 

New Endowed Chair for Child Blood Disorders

Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation and McMaster Children’s Hospital recently announced a new research chair in pediatric blood disorders at McMaster University, with the assistance of Bayer Inc.
 

New Mac Kids Pediatric Emergency Department

On November 5, Mac Kids celebrated the grand opening of the new pediatric emergency department by holding an open house for the community. Attendees toured phase 1 of the new state-of-the-art deparment. To learn more about Mac Kids specialized emergency department, click here.

Canadian Country Music week kicked off at Mac Kids

On Friday, September 9, Canadian country stars Gord Bamford and Dean Brody stopped by McMaster Children’s Hospital with country music duo The Stellas to deliver some gifts and perform a mini-concert for about 35 patients, parents and staff. Each artist performed a few songs before Gord Bamford presented a cheque for $10,000 to Mac Kids. That was followed by another cheque for $5,000 from the Canadian Country Music Association on behalf of its 2011 Humanitarian award recipient Johnny Reid.

Dunnville Girl, A True Champion

In 2003, Emily, a sweet and fun-loving three year-old girl, was experiencing severe joint pain. Her concerned parents took her to Mac Kids where she was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Dairy Queen Miracle Treat Day

Miracle Treat Day took place on August 11, 2011. Dairy Queens in the Hamilton and Niagara region donated proceeds from Blizzard Treat sales for the day to Mac Kids. Thank you to all who enjoyed a Blizzard as you helped to make miracles happen.

Door-to-door fundraising campaign underway

Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation is currently conducting a door-to-door fundraising campaign in Stoney Creek to support our greatest needs. 

The representatives are trained professionals and have identification indicating they are with Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation. The team is non-commissioned. If you have any inquiries related to this campaign, please contact our office at 905-522-3863.

Dufferin Concrete Drumming Up Support for Mac Kids

Dufferin Concrete, a division of Holcim Canada Inc., has raised $50,000 for the Essentials for Excellence campaign which supports the Pediatric Emergency Department redevelopment at Mac Kids. Dufferin raised the funds by asking 10 companies to sponsor the program in exchange for having their logo adorn the drum of one of Dufferin’s ready-mix concrete trucks.  

The ready-mix Drum Sponsorship Program is in its forth year and has had phenomenal success. This is the first year that funds are being directed to McMaster Children’s Hospital.
