Transformational change is underway at McMaster Children’s Hospital. Over the next two years, three of our major service areas will be relocated to purpose-built spaces optimally designed for children and their families.
Though the redevelopment will enhance patient care and provide additional support for Mac Kids, its increased capacity will also create an urgent need for new hospital equipment. As medical equipment is not funded by the province, Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation launched Essentials for Excellence, a program raising funds to equip our Ophthalmology, Diagnostic Imaging, and Emergency Department.
Pediatric Ophthalmology Clinic Campaign
Mac Kids is already the regional centre of excellence for children with eye conditions caring for over 10,000 patients each year. With specialized Pediatric Ophthalmologists and support staff trained to work with children even before they can speak, Mac Kids offers expertise that is not available anywhere else in south-central Ontario.
It is imperative to detect eye issues early so that conditions can be treated before vision loss becomes permanent. The Clinic at Mac Kids is able to provide an initial consult in under three months which greatly increases the ability to intervene before some vision problems become irreversible.
The cost to redevelop the Pediatric Ophthalmology Clinic into a family and child-centred environment that meets modern standards is estimated at $1.3-million. This investment allows us to provide the Essentials for Excellence to our physicians and staff.
The Essentials include:
State of the art equipment and tools to enable early detection and treatment
Modern, family and child-centred examination rooms and waiting areas to enhance the experience for families
On Saturday, June 2nd McMaster Children’s Hospital, in partnership with Hamilton Police and Hamilton Public Health are proud to present the first annual Mac Kids Walk & Wheel for Miracles.
