CVS Council Member Recognized

On June 15, Dr. Doug Holder, Interventional Cardiologist at Hamilton General Hospital and Cardiac, Vascular and Stroke Fundraising Council Member, was presented with a Glen Sawyer Award from the Ontario Medical Association (OMA).

The prestigious award is given to 15 physicians from across the province each year based on significant service to the OMA, medical profession, or public at the community level.

Dr. Holder, who is widely regarded as one of the founder’s of cardiology in Hamilton, received the award in recognition of his distinguished career of service.

Dr. Holder joined Hamilton Health Sciences in 1976 as one of the first four Canadian recruits into the Department of Medicine at McMaster University and has been a practising cardiologist at Hamilton General Hospital ever since.

During his more than 30-year career at the Hospital, he has held numerous leadership positions including Cardiac Care Unit Director, Heart Investigation Unit Director, Head of the Clinical Service of Cardiology and, most recently, Director of the Cardiac and Vascular Program.
