Miracle Weekend Celebrates $5.49M Raised in 2011

On June 1 and 2, Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation and McMaster Children’s Hospital celebrated the 20th Anniversary of Mac Kids Miracle Weekend.

The annual celebration, which each year highlights the tremendous work happening at the Hospital and the incredible generosity of donors to Mac Kids, included Friday’s all-day broadcast on CHCH TV live from the Hospital lobby and the first annual Mac Kids Walk & Wheel for Miracles, on Saturday.

Dedicated to raising funds in support of Mac Kids, Miracle Weekend provides a means to highlight the tremendous range of care offered at McMaster Children’s Hospital and share patient stories from throughout the region. It is also an opportunity for us to recognize the year-long generosity of our donors and celebrate the $5.49 million raised in 2011 on behalf of Mac Kids.

Friday’s coverage featured interviews with Hospital staff and patients, recorded segments showcasing the contributions of some of our corporate partners and two documentaries telling the stories of families whose lives have been forever changed thanks to the life-saving care at McMaster Children’s Hospital.

A new addition to Miracle Weekend this year was the inaugural Walk & Wheel for Miracles. This family friendly fundraiser, held at Pier 4 Park, included cycling events for toddlers and children under nine, a 5K walk for all ages and a helmet safety clinic, sponsored by the Hamilton Police Service and Hamilton Public Health. More than 500 participants of all ages took part, helping raise more than $72,000, a tremendous accomplishment for an first-year event.
