On February 5, 2024, we were thrilled to warmly welcome Anissa Hilborn as CEO of Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation. Anissa brings with her a wealth of leadership experience, a passion for philanthropy, and a commitment to advancing health care in our community.

We sat down with Anissa to talk about what attracted her to Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, the important role philanthropy plays in health care, and her life outside of work. Here’s what she had to say:
What attracted you to this role at Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation?
The ability to work with an exceptional team in support of a world-renowned hospital and serving my own community is equally as important as it is inspiring. I look forward to working with this committed team to achieve aspirational and shared goals.
Why is health care important to you?
It is one of the essential elements to a vibrant and healthy community. I want to have an impact in my own community, and one of the best ways I can see to do that is through supporting health care for my family, friends, and neighbours.
What is your vision for Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation under your leadership, and what goals do you hope to achieve in the next few years?
I want to build on the incredible success the Foundation has experienced under Pearl’s extraordinary leadership over the last 16 years, while looking forward to identifying and leveraging new opportunities for innovation and growth.
Community support is vital to our mission of supporting outstanding clinical care and research for the communities served by Hamilton Health Sciences. What is your message for our community members who are considering a donation to Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation?
Your decision to support Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation is a good investment that will have a measurable impact on the health of our community. I see our role as facilitators of your generosity as a privilege and look forward to demonstrating the difference you are making in the lives of many who rely on Hamilton Health Sciences for care.
Can you share one of your favourite quotes about leadership?
A community leader I worked with once said “Our behaviour today will be our history tomorrow – make sure it is well written” and it still resonates with me today.
Outside of work, what are your hobbies?
I love to bake, cook, travel, and really enjoy puzzles and games. I’m also a huge sports fan, especially team sports like football, soccer, and I’m always rooting for Team Canada (and Italy).
