St. Peter’s Hospital is a centre of excellence specializing in the delivery of complex care for adults with chronic illness.  St. Peter’s provides inpatient, outpatient, and community-based programs and services that focus on Dementia, Aging, Palliative Care and Rehabilitation. It is also home to St. Peter’s Centre for Healthy Aging and the Juravinski Research Centre.

Finding Hope and Happiness at St. Peter's

Wesley Fudge enjoys the freedom of being able to wander throughout St. Peter’s Hospital without being confined to a patient room. He stays busy with visits from family, attending hospital events, and as a member of the St. Peter’s Therapeutic Recreation Services “Guy’s Club”, a social club for men who are patients at St. Peter’s Hospital.
 

2011 Festival of Lights at St. Peter's Hospital

On December 1st we welcomed the holiday season at St. Peter’s Hospital during Festival of Lights.

A Look at Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue. This weakening in the bones can leave a person at a much greater risk for fracturing a wrist, shoulder or hip after a fall. One in four women over the age of 50 have osteoporosis and at least one in eight men over 50 also has the disease, however, it can strike at any age.

A Family Finds Comfort at St. Peter's

Eustachio Monaco passed away in April 2011 at the age of 87, although saddened by his passing, his family would rather celebrate his life.

Door-to-door fundraising campaign underway

Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation is currently conducting a door-to-door fundraising campaign in Stoney Creek to support our greatest needs.

Coping with Alzheimer's Disease - Ken's Story

 

At age 82, Ken has already lived a rich life full of travel, work and family. But, in January 2009, Ken was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and his family had to cope with knowing that aspects of the man they knew were slipping away.
Born in Bombay, India, Ken has lived an eventful life. He played soccer and field hockey at a competitive level, then met the love of his life, Connie, and they married and had four children. Ken and his family immigrated to Canada in 1967 where he worked in the manufacturing industry for most of his professional career as a mechanical engineer finally retiring in 1990.  

Nursing Student Awarded for Ongoing Education

 

Maggie Zhang is the recipient of this year’s Grant I. Budden Scholarship Award. This annual grant is awarded to a St. Peter’s nursing student who is pursuing additional training in gerontology. 
 
The award, named in honor of a former St. Peter’s employee who had a deep appreciation for the level of care at the Hospital, is presented annually at the Nurses Tea during National Nursing Week.

Dealing With Dementia at St. Peter's

Recently, Cable 14 visited St. Peter’s Hospital and produced a three-minute feature on the Alexander Pavilion. This video highlights some of the tremendous work happening at St. Peter’s.There are over 300,000 people in Canada living with Alzheimer’s Disease and related dementias. Alzheimer’s can appear at any age and eventually affect all aspects of a person’s life. The Alexander Pavilion at St. Peter’s Hospital provides patients with a safe and comfortable space designed especially for their needs.

Denninger's Christmas Market and Open House

Denninger’s on King Street East celebrated the holiday season on November 21 at their second annual Christmas Market and Open House in support of St. Peter's Hospital.

The event was a huge success despite the freezing temperatures. Customers were able to support the event by purchasing lunch tickets as well as make donations to St. Peter's for a chance to spin the Denninger's holiday wheel for prizes.

Jane's Story from St. Peter's

At 36 years old, Jane Williams doesn’t strike you as someone who would live at St. Peter’s Hospital. Quite often, people associate St. Peter’s with seniors or people requiring palliative care. But the reality is that St. Peter’s offers exactly the kind of specialized complex continuing care for people like Jane.

Susan Kruszynski enjoys bringing her mom Sadie lemon cake when she visits her at St. Peter’s Hospital. She enjoys the time they spend together although it is bitter-sweet for Susan as her mom Sadie doesn’t remember who she is. 

Healthy Bones, Healthy Aging

This past summer, St. Peter's Hospital hosted a presentation on the prevention of Osteoporosis. The lecture "Healthy Bones, Healthy Aging" was given by Dr. Alexandra Papaioannou, Professor of Medicine, McMaster University CIHR/Eli-Lilly Chair, Osteoporosis and Fracture Prevention Geriatrician, Hamilton Health Sciences.
