A wide range of support is available to individuals at various stages of their careers and includes scholarships, awards and bursaries for education and research initiatives. We also provide grants for items that fall outside of regular hospital budgets.

The JHCC Education Grants Program supports education andtraining opportunities for staff, patients and the public to improve theoverall quality and capacity of the cancer program. Full-time or part-timeemployees of JHCC are eligible to apply.
Eligible Programs and Projects:
• Professional Development (courses, conferences,specialized training) - up to $3,000 in funding
• Masters Degrees or Higher Education - up to$5,000 in funding
• Undergraduate Degrees (in related field) - up to $3,000 infunding
• Education Projects (patient education, publiceducation, or team development with specific program outcomes for pilot orone-time projects) - up to $25,000 in funding

• The Robert and Murray Burns Education Award insupport of continuing education for staff - $2,000
• The Virginia Hardy Education Staff Research Awardin support of research projects for all staff - $3,000
• The Steve Hopkins Bursary for Hematology Care insupport of ongoing educational and professional development opportunities forhematology staff - $2,000
• The Dianne Lee Memorial Bursary in support ofradiation therapists - $500
• The Douglas E. St. John Education Award in supportof palliative care nurses - $2,000
*Funding from the General Education fund may be offeredin addition to a Named Award.

The JHCC Research Grants Program awards funding annually to research projects that demonstrate compatibility with the Juravinski Cancer Program's priorities.
Available Funding:
Research Development Grants - Up to $60,000
Projects that will generate data to support the developmentof larger applications to peer reviewed funding agencies. Ideally, these grantsshould support the development of novice or junior investigators. Projects mustbe completed within a 24 month period.
Thematic Research Grants - Up to $100,000
Substantive projects that address important researchquestions in one of three areas of research: Clinical Trial projects,Translational projects, or Quality of Care and Knowledge Translation projects.Projects must be completed within a 36 month period.
Named Awards
Funding from these awards are not in addition to, but areincluded as part of, the maximum award for a Research Development or Thematicgrant.
• The Kuhn Award in support of research related toHodgkin Disease or non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.
• The John Rogerson Jackson & DorotheaMarguerite Jackson Medical Research Fund in support of medical research inthe field of oncology.
• The Carpenter Family Award in support of researchin the area of Malignant Hematology and Leukemia research.
• The Hadley H. Chamberlain Endowment Fund in supportof Prostate Cancer research.
• The BRIGHT Run Fund in support of BreastCancer research.
Eligibility Criteria:
• The principal investigator must be involved in the CancerProgram at the JHCC (e.g. members of the department of Oncologyat JHCC, members of a Disease Site Team, members of ECRI).
• The intent is to fund early career investigators (within5-7 years of the start of their research programs) within interdisciplinaryteams.
• The principal and/or co-principal investigator must notcurrently have an active JHCCF-funded grant.
• The project must involve research with clearly identifiedresearch questions or objectives and methodologies. Quality improvementprojects are not eligible.

The Dr. Stephen Buttrum Memorial Bursary for Excellence in Clinical Psychology is awarded to PhD candidates in clinical psychology, who have been accepted into the Clinical Psychology Internship Program at McMaster Children’s Hospital. This Bursary has been established in memory of the late Dr. Stephen Buttrum, a beloved psychologist and clinician at McMaster Children’s Hospital, through a generous donation to Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation from the Buttrum family. There is $10,000 available to be awarded annually.
The Family Grants program offers a unique opportunity to support patient care at Hamilton Health Sciences by providing grants to employees for items that fall outside of regular hospital budgets (e.g. specialized furnishings and equipment). This program is jointly provided in partnership by Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation and Hamilton Health Sciences Volunteer Association. Staff from all HHS sites and departments are eligible to apply. Most grants awarded are up to $2,000, although larger requests may be considered.
The Cameron Family Award provides financial support to nurses, physicians, therapists, and/or allied health members of the pediatric surgery interdisciplinary team and is intended to support capital expenditures, workshops, education, professional development, collaboration and/or team building initiatives in the Department of Pediatric Surgery. The award was established by Occupational Therapist, G. Patricia Cameron and Pediatric Surgeon, Dr. Gordon S. Cameron and their family, and recognizes their contributions to improving health care in Hamilton. The award is valued at $3,000.
The Richard and Mary Pelling Scholarship and Bursary in Psychiatry are awarded to full-time students and residents enrolled in a health discipline, studying psychiatry or psychology in the Faculty of Health Sciences or the Faculty of Social Sciences at McMaster University. Eligible applicants must have psychiatric clinical and/or research experience in the Integrated Mental Health Program at Hamilton Health Sciences or St. Joseph’s Healthcare during the 2024 – 2025 academic year. Funds are made available through the generosity of Mr. Peter Gordon Pelling in memory of his parents, Richard and Mary Pelling. There is $5,431.09 each available for the scholarship and the bursary.
