The Richard and Mary Pelling Scholarship and Bursary in Psychiatry are awarded to full-time students and residents enrolled in a health discipline, studying psychiatry or psychology in the Faculty of Health Sciences or the Faculty of Social Sciences at McMaster University. Funds are made available through the generosity of Mr. Peter Gordon Pelling in memory of his parents, Richard and Mary Pelling. The Scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement. The Bursary is awarded based on demonstrated financial need. There is $5,431.09 each available for the scholarship and the bursary.
Eligibility: Full-time students and residents enrolled in a health discipline, studying psychiatry in the Faculty of Health Sciences or the Faculty of Social Sciences at McMaster University. Applicants must have psychiatric clinical and/or research experience in the Integrated Mental Health Program at Hamilton Health Sciences or St. Joseph’s Healthcare during the 2024 – 2025 academic year.

If you are the successful candidate, you will be required to submit proof of successful completion of your program in the 2024-2025 academic year, along with a report outlining the impact the award had on your educational experience to Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation no later than October 1, 2025.
The Bursary will be awarded in March 2025.
